*All Liberal MPs have agreed and will be required to vote pro-choice on any abortion-related bills/motions. Also, Trudeau will not likely allow anti-choice MPs to introduce their own bills/motions, or publicly advocate against abortion rights. Therefore, these MPs should not pose any threat, although they should be monitored. Likewise, Liberal MPs not
on this 2014 pro-choice list may warrant monitoring to ensure they adhere to the party’s pro-choice policy. Oct 2016, Bill C-225 update: All 7 Liberals with previous anti-choice records voted No, except for John McKay who did not vote.
**Anti-choice MPs are designated as anti-choice based on at least one of these reasons:
– Voted in favour of Bill C-225, and/or Bill C-484, and/or Bill C-510, and/or Motion 312
– Opposed the Order of Canada for Dr. Henry Morgentaler in 2008
– Made public anti-choice or “pro-life” statements
– Participated publicly in anti-choice events or campaigns
– Rated as “pro-life” (green) by Campaign Life Coalition
***Pro-choice MPs: Estimate includes Conservative MPs with a public pro-choice position and/or pro-choice voting record. It also includes all Liberal MPs except the 7 anti-choice ones, and all MPs from all other parties based on the assumption they are pro-choice or will vote pro-choice.

1. In May 2019, Cathy McLeod said: “I think the issue has been settled in terms of the Canadian public and it is a decision, a very private decision and a very difficult decision, between the mother, her partner and the doctor.” (https://www.kamloopsthisweek.com/opinion/foulds-the-abortiondebate-that-never-seems-to-end-1.23829365) This may indicate a growing shift in her views, or just ambivalence on the issue (fully pro-choice people do not use the word “mother” or say abortion is a “difficult” decision.)
2. Lisa Raitt had previously been listed as a pro-choice Conservative; we have changed her status based on her C-225 vote.

1. Dan Albas said he would not re-open the abortion debate in Parliament regardless of his personal views. He voted against M-312 and M-408, but questioned the Canada Summer Jobs attestation requirement.
2. Maxime Bernier voted against M-312 but said he’s willing to re-open the abortion debate in Parliament if the party wants that. He misrepresented the CSJ attestation and is against it.
3. Gérard Deltell is in favour of “conscience rights” for healthcare professionals and hospitals.
4. David Tilson voted against M-312.
Pro-choice Conservatives

Note: Only known pro-choice Conservatives are listed below. We make the assumption that all MPs from other parties are pro-choice, except for the 7 Liberals listed in the Anti-choice table.

They should never have given us uniforms if they didn’t want us to be an army…

While wearing costume is not mandatory to attend protests across the country as a Handmaid Local member, it is the handmaid visual that makes the most impact, especially in large groups.  First and foremost, showing up is more important than dressing up.  We recognize that the Handmaid image may not suit everyone’s personal truth.   The image does, however, resonate widely, and sends a visual message.  Should you choose to,  here are some links to ready-made items for purchase.
